Course Code: IDSN 1010

Academic Year: 2024-2025

This course covers the methods used by industrial design. Creative thinking and principles of problem solving are shown in ancient artifacts, tools, craftwork, furniture and flatware. The rational design from the nineteenth century became the method of the twentieth century that has influenced today's products. The course reveals why and how people design. Design methods changed with developing society and advanced with new technology to address the needs of the times. The major theme in the equation is creative thought and problem solving expressed through utilitarian objects. The course focuses on contemporary stages in product development, both in the creative methods derived from the artistic community and the objective methods derived from the scientific community. Practice in design methods, in which problem recognition and forming a statement is followed by inquiry and idea generation, renders several alternatives which are to be discussed, tested and evaluated in the course.
