This course gives the industrial designer the tools to make a meaningful assessment of the environmental impact of the products they design, as well as give them practical options which can minimize the environmental impact of those products. The environmental impact of consumer products is assessed using the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). Initiatives to minimize the environmental impact are investigated from both industry practice and the scientific literature. This informs a re-design of a specific consumer product to minimize its environmental footprint.
