Students will develop the skills necessary to contribute publishable stories and visuals to both outlets. They will produce a portfolio of stories, photographs, and other content such as video from an assigned beat and in consultation with their student section editor, working to deadline and rewriting to industry standards with feedback and guidance from the professor. Students file publishable stories, take photos, videos and information graphics, with text adhering to the Canadian Press style guide. They will be asked to flag developing stories on social media and will use computer-assisted reporting techniques. They will also develop editing skills through peer editing of classmates' work in each class. At the completion of this course, students will have developed a portfolio of work published in tabloid-format pdfs and online versions of the school newspaper as well as the Humber News site.
