This course introduces students to common law and criminal processes from the point of arrest to sentencing and appeals. It examines pertinent sections of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and their impact on Canadian criminal procedure. There is an emphasis on legal rights, and the roles and responsibilities of the various players in the criminal justice system. Criminal law theory is applied in a mock court environment where students are challenged to prepare, prosecute and defend a criminal charge.
