Mixing Techniques for Recorded Music

This course introduces the technical skills and artistic techniques used to create compelling stereo mixes in a digital audio workstation. Students will learn to shape the aesthetic qualities of a recording via spectral, dynamic and temporal processing to help convey artistic vision and emotional intent. Topics will include critical listening, balance, workflow, session management, routing, signal processing and automation. In-class mix analysis and concepts will be supported through multitrack mix assignments in a range of musical styles.
