This course is equivalent to BIOL 326 - Introductory Microbiology and is an entrance requirement for the Second Entry Nursing program. This course introduces students to the biology of micro-organisms, such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa and prions. These organisms are studied in terms of their classification, physiology and distribution, with an emphasis placed on their medical significance. Epidemiology of infectious disease, including disease transmission, control procedures and body defence mechanisms, are also studied.
