This overview course introduces students to the legal and ethical responsibilities involved in media communications. Students study the major ethical frameworks and then apply these frameworks to case studies across a variety of media fields. Issues of privacy, defamation, freedom of expression, intellectual property rights and copyright are discussed within the context of legal constraints and ethical guidelines within which media professionals operate. This course prepares students to safely publish texts and images with due concern for the legal and ethical implications.
