This foundational course introduces students to the legal and ethical responsibilities involved in the professional writing and communications fields. Students study the major ethical frameworks and Canadas legal system to examine/analyze case studies from different media fields. Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms, government regulation, surveillance capitalism, AI, privacy, defamation, credibility of factual and creative content, freedom of expression, intellectual property rights, copyright, as well as employee/employer rights are discussed using the context of Canada's legal system and the ethical parameters within which communications professionals work.
