This course will continue to examine the complete process of recording through theoretical discussion and practice. Through further studio sessions and lectures, signal processing will be studied by breaking it into dynamic, frequency and temporal analysis. Analogue and digital technology will be compared and an understanding of the merits and caveats of each will be discussed. Mixing, editing and mastering are discussed and experienced through assigned projects and lectures. Various archiving practices and release formats for audio, including audio for internet or picture, will be examined. By the end of this course, students should have an advanced understanding of the recording process and the technical options available to them as recording artists. An underlying goal of this course is to help prepare students for the practical requirements of their fourth year Directed Study projects.
