Through readings, discussion and music listening, students will explore the explosive growth of the music industry since the Second World War. In particular, the class will discover the myriad ways the Canadian music industry has attempted to break from the yoke of this US dominated industry. Pushing back against this dominance are the organizations and legislation "Made in Canada" created to support not just Canadian artists but also supports for Canadian businesses needed to establish a home-grown industry.
