This course focuses on enhancing learners' knowledge of system administration on UNIX servers. Administration tasks include automation of repetitive tasks, kernel compilation, backup policies, security logs and firewall maintenance and system services management. The installation and configuration of server applications (e.g. ssh, sftp, Samba, mail) are performed. Learners will utilize various system utilities to complete their tasks. These concepts are illustrated by studying the operation of an open-source Linux operating system (Fedora, Ubuntu or Red Hat or combination of various distributions). Comparisons to MS Windows systems management are also done.
