This theory course focuses on wellness and on health challenges across the lifespan, with special emphasis placed on adults and the elderly. Students apply knowledge of the etiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations and management and prevention of specific health conditions. Key concepts include examination of collaborative and consultative approaches to assessing clients and for developing mutually agreed outcomes and plans of care by participating in an inter-professional health care team. Students use the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate expected outcomes and nursing care for clients experiencing health problems and explore the therapeutic use of self through therapeutic communication and nurse or client relationships. Students examine evidence-informed practice and use a theory-based approach focused on promoting, maintaining and restoring health and learn about palliation and supporting clients through a peaceful death.
