This course builds on the students' pre-existing knowledge of the nursing process, holistic nursing care within the inter-professional health care team and health and the biological and social sciences theory. Students use critical thinking and problem solving to achieve a theoretical understanding of nursing and collaborative care strategies that address clients' priorities for health and wellness. Advanced concepts focus on the themes of perioperative nursing care; maternal or newborn, pediatric and adolescent health challenges; and mental health and wellness. A significant focus is on the nursing and collaborative care required for adults coping with alterations of health involving the gastrointestinal, renal and hepatic systems as well as clients living with cancer.
