This theoretical course introduces the nursing profession and the roles and responsibilities of the Practical Nurse. Students explore legislation, the role of the College of Nurses of Ontario as the regulatory authority, and professional associations that influence nursing. The students learn the importance of practicing in the best interests of the public and protecting the public from harm. Students examine the client-nurse relationship, Canada's health care system, concepts of health and wellness, therapeutic relationships, and communication. The nursing process and clinical judgment model are introduced to explore health promotion, illness prevention, and maintenance of health.
