In the Statistics Canada annual report, Health of Canadians (2023), it states that in 2021, 45.1% of Canadians live with at least one major chronic disease, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Food and nutrition play an important role in health promotion and disease prevention. In this course, students explore the role of food, nutrition, diet and menu modification in the prevention and management of disease. Students practice adapting food and lifestyle goals to meet specific nutritional recommendations of various chronic diseases.
