This course provides a starting point to understanding business and finance. The major functions of business (management, human resources, operations, marketing and accounting) are examined in the Canadian environment. This course teaches students how to apply proven management practices and strategic analysis to ensure intelligent business planning, budgeting and allocation of resources to improve how organizations operate. As a pre-requisite for the Investor Relations course in Semester 7, students are exposed to balance sheets, income statements and cash flow statements. Basic financial concepts such as simple interest, discounts, present value, time value of money, compound interest, annuities, return on investment, capitalized costs, and bonds and stocks are also covered.
