This course combines the disciplines of communication, finance and marketing to achieve an effective two-way flow of information between a public company and the investment community, to enable fair and efficient capital markets. The course is grounded in the relationship between public relations professionals and investor relations officers (IROs) who are responsible for communicating the companys strategic messages and operational results to the marketplace via news releases to meet stock exchange regulatory requirements. In addition, they can use other communication vehicles such as conference calls, road shows, webcasts, the annual report and the management information circular to disseminate corporate information. They also gather market intelligence about what is being said about the company and then add value to the corporate decision-making process on how to adjust future communication messages. Accurate and clear information enables financial analysts and investors to make informed decisions and leads to enhanced confidence in management strategies.
