This course will expose students to relevant conflict situations in law enforcement by providing examples of the safe procedures to follow that enhances the likelihood of successful interventions. Students will be expected to learn the factors that precipitate conflicts and crisis situations as well apply the appropriate de-escalation techniques. An emphasis on law enforcement response to occurrences involving mental illness, suicide and suicide intervention, special populations, and officer safety will be examined. Students will be exposed to course content, authentic learning scenarios and self-study exercises that will assist them apply knowledge and best practices when managing conflict among various justice sectors.
