This course represents an introduction to dosage forms and dispensing theory which will assist students in Dispensing Labs. This includes interpreting the prescription, learning and translating of Latin abbreviations, calculating prescription quantities and dose calculations. Drug names, prescription labeling and auxiliary labeling will be covered. This material and related skills will be explained and practised utilizing both textbook and computer software resources. The students will learn about the various dosage forms, their characteristics and use in patients. The ability to choose the correct product for prescriptions commonly encountered in community dispensing will be practised. As a key element of effective health care delivery is working in teams, this course will introduce and practise the key elements of effective team participation and leadership.
