This course will introduce students to the health care system in Canada and Ontario. The organization of hospitals, the functions and services of the hospital pharmacy and the role of the hospital pharmacy technician, the director of pharmacy, pharmacists and other health professionals will be discussed. Hospital drug distribution systems and pharmacy services, including purchasing and inventory control, will be emphasized. Students will gain knowledge in pharmaceutics as it applies to the compounding of products in institutional settings.
