A generally accepted definition of public relations still eludes practitioners due to the broad scope and multi-dimensional nature of this dynamic practice. This course is a formal introduction to public relations practice. Students are introduced to the history, breadth and diversity and best practices of public relations. A variety of guest speakers share their experiences to emphasize the vital management role public relations plays to create and maintain goodwill and understanding between organizations and their publics. Students will appreciate the scope of the field by exploring best practices in public relations and the diverse tasks and responsibilities of practitioners in a variety of professional settings.
