In this course, students learn the basic theory and practice of the investigative approach in the public and private sectors. Core investigative processes are introduced, including note-taking, report writing, crown brief preparation, statement-taking, and interviewing skills. Students explore the role that forensic sciences play in criminal and civil investigations, along with issues around continuity of evidence, arbitrations, disciplinary procedures, and public-private distinctions in powers of arrest.
