This course builds foundational knowledge of Canadian legislation at the federal, provincial, and municipal levels. Students will develop an ability to apply key concepts of security-related laws in the areas of private security, investigative services, corrections, trespass to property, mental health, freedom of information, personal health information, and evidence. This course will also examine the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and its impact on search and seizure authority for citizens, border patrol, private investigators, security guards, and peace officers. Students will also learn the fundamentals of how to interpret and apply Canada's Criminal Code.
