This course highlights best practice investigative interviewing skills and models and how to apply them during the various stages of the investigative process. Students develop interviewing skills and knowledge necessary to elicit reliable information from victims, witnesses and suspects in the course of investigations both in the public and private sector. Students learn how to properly plan for and conduct professional investigative interviews and the importance of creating a formal record of the process for evidentiary purposes in subsequent prosecutions. Students learn how to work in accordance with essential legal requirements for conducting investigative interviews including the common law confessions rule and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
