This course teaches students the key phases and steps in the risk management cycle, including how to identify, analyze, and mitigate risks. Students study standardized risk analysis methodologies that are used in both the private and public security fields. Students complete a series of risk management exercises throughout the semester, working both individually and in groups to present their findings. Experiential learning complements the theoretical foundations of risk management. Students are provided with guest lectures from risk management practitioners, taken to Emergency Management Ontario on a field trip, and introduced to related employment opportunities in the security field.
