Physical security systems are vital to promoting a safe and secure environment for the public and employees. This course is designed to provide the student with a practical understanding of the implementation of physical security systems used to protect and secure all types of buildings and associated property. Students will get an understanding of the operation and data recorded in the operation of these physical security systems, and will explore how data obtained from physical security systems can assist with the investigation of a crime or a security incident. The course will introduce students to the application of mechanical and electrical security devices, and provide an understanding of how security system are used to detect, deter, delay and respond to security breaches. Classes will combine theoretical lessons with lab-based practical exercises that incorporate security system hardware and software.
