This course explores aspects of caring for clients who are dying. Topics discussed include the impact of a life threatening disease, the provision of support for the dying person and their friends and family, respecting the rights of the dying person, specific approaches of pain management, care of the person at time of death and care of the body after death. Ways in which to assist grieving family members and personal reactions to the death of a client are also examined. In addition, transitioning into the PSW work environment will be explored.
