Counselling: Theory and Practice

This course introduces students to a variety of counselling theories and how they are applied in the human service field, while critically examining their contributions and limitations in working with specific and diverse client groups. The nature and stages of the counselling relationship and the process of change will be addressed, including the challenges of dealing with resistance, confrontation and other challenging situations. Students will be given the opportunity in the lab portion of the course to practice and apply the essential counselling skills and various approaches addressed in the lectures.
