Acquiring advanced knowledge regarding the personality traits, behavioural patterns, and contributing factors relevant to specific offending populations is essential for professionals planning to work within the Criminal Justice Sector. This course will explore unique offending populations through a psychological lens. Students will examine evolutionary, developmental, and social/personality based theoretical perspectives regarding antisociality, aggression, criminality, and violence. Extensive review and analysis of empirical research will guide examination and discussion of unique offending populations such as at-risk youth, psychopaths, serial killers, and sexual and violent offenders. Scenarios and case study-based activities will be utilized to encourage the application of course related theory and concepts.
