Course Code: RAPP 5003
Academic Year: 2020-2021
This course examines issues related to data organization, representation, access, storage, and processing across a variety of software platforms. Knowing how to navigate widely used software packages to manage data is critical to the research process. In this course, students will calculate fundamental descriptive statistics such as mean, median, and mode along with measures of variability. Students will learn how to present data in a variety of graphical forms such as histograms, stem and leaf graphs, and scatterplots. The course will also focus on how to use these summary statistics and graphical forms to aid decision-making. Simple comparisons between means, correlation coefficients and coefficients of reliability and validity will be calculated. Students will also learn how to generate formulae that manipulate and combine variables as required. Additionally, the judicious use of all programs in Microsoft Office will be thoroughly examined.
