Success in research management requires knowledge of theoretical and applied management methods and the ability to use these methods in existing industry situations. In addition to learning how to research and identify sources of funding appropriate to the research study, conceptual models and practical applications of managerial and leadership roles in the research process are featured in this course. Specific topics include the behavioural aspects of research management and the communication component of team-building and leading research projects, including how to effectively plan and conduct meetings, present findings and conduct creative brainstorming sessions to generate new ideas and solve problems. Special emphasis is placed on the evaluation of research findings and the philosophical frameworks of research projects. Students will also have the opportunity to create a boutique research project to augment their academic and professional skills and knowledge.
