This foundational course introduces Respiratory Therapy students to the structure and function of the human body, with an emphasis on systems essential to respiratory and cardiovascular health. Students will explore the organization of the body from cells and tissues to organs and systems, examining how each system contributes to maintaining homeostasis and supporting life. Special focus is placed on the respiratory and cardiovascular systems, including their role in ventilation, oxygen transport, and gas exchange. The course also examines the nervous, endocrine, renal, and musculoskeletal systems as they relate to respiratory function and client care. Students will apply medical terminology, analyze system interdependence, and build the bioscience foundation required for advanced study in pathophysiology and clinical practice.
