This course provides a comprehensive overview of the sport management field, introducing students to the foundational concepts, structures, and career opportunities within the industry. Topics include the history and evolution of sport management, organizational structures, marketing and sponsorship, event and facility management, and the impact of globalization on sports. Students will explore both professional and amateur sports contexts, gaining insight into the diverse sectors such as collegiate athletics, professional leagues, recreational sport, and emerging digital platforms. Through case studies, guest speakers, and practical assignments, students will develop a foundational understanding of the skills and knowledge required to succeed in sport management careers. Furthermore, students will also be provided information on the importance of developing a professional perspective as well as the support systems that are crucial to sustain and grow the sport industry.
