This course is designed to prepare students for professional practice in diverse social service settings. It focuses on professional roles and responsibilities, effective communication, awareness of self and reflective practice, and standards of professional and ethical conduct, thereby enhancing students understanding of best practices in the field. It also emphasizes completion of the necessary documentations and securing of a Field Experience opportunity in preparation for the Field Experience coursesSSW 257 & SSW 267in the subsequent semesters. A key feature of this course is volunteering at a community based social service organization to acquire practical exposure and readiness for Field Experience. Students will also be engaged in hands-on simulated activities, case studies, workshops, and discussions to develop the requisite knowledge and skills to successfully engage in Field Experience and the formal workplace.
