This course equips students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for effective service coordination and advocacy across diverse social service settings. Emphasizing empowerment-based and client-centered approaches, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the case management process. The course explores the legal and ethical foundations of service coordination, including informed consent, confidentiality, professional boundaries, and the duty to report. Students will examine relevant legislationsuch as privacy laws and child protection statutesand analyze how these legal frameworks influence decision-making in practice. A core component of the course is the development of professional documentation skills. Students will learn to write effective case notes and service plans that align with sector standards. Through a blend of interactive discussions, case studies, and inquiry-based learning, students will develop the skills to assess the needs of individuals and families, identify appropriate services and supports, coordinate services, and evaluate the effectiveness of interventionsall while upholding social justice principles and promoting equitable access to services.
