In this course, students apply the properties and functions of TCM herbs in treatment planning. Through lectures and laboratory studies, students learn the TCM herbology concepts of properties, flavours, ascending, descending, floating, sinking, channel tropism, actions, indications, and toxicity in relation to the clinical applications of each herb. Students identify herb-herb interaction, compatibility and the most common combinations, dosage, potential adverse effects, contraindications & precautions, and relevant scientific research describing pharmacological actions of the herbs. Students focus on herbs identified by the regulatory college in the Entry Level Occupational Competencies.
