In this course, students develop competency in the general procedure of acupuncture treatment and various needling techniques. Student learn to adapt the clinical setting to enhance comfort and safety, position patient for treatment, locate selected points, apply treatment techniques, monitor the patient condition, and respond appropriately during treatment. With hands-on practice, students receive training on specific needling techniques, including advanced filiform needling, dermal needling, intra-dermal tack needling, and three-edged needling. Students also learn to perform ear acupuncture, scalp acupuncture, and learn moxibustion theory, cupping and acupuncture treatment utilizing supplementary devices such as laser, heat lamp, and electro-acupuncture devices. As a core outcome, students apply the principles of selecting the stimulation techniques, and applying knowledge of precautions and contraindications for application of the stimulation techniques.
