Traditional Chinese Medicine Safety

In this course, students gain insight into various safety measures that need to be considered and followed according to the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario (CTCMPAO) and public health guidelines. Students evaluate theoretical patient risk profiles, understand the elements necessary for a safe working environment and the management of risks to patients in TCM practice. Students compare various microorganisms and apply infection control procedures. They recognize medical emergencies and develop an action plan when safety issues present in the clinical setting, including referral to other health care professionals. Students review record keeping policy and standards according to the statutes governing the profession (TCM Act, RHPA, PHIPA and PIPEDA) and other medico-legal requirements.
