TESL 5005 aims to help learners become proficient in using national standards such as Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLBs) and National Language Learning Progression (NLLP) charts to assess adult English language learners proficiency and to create long-range teaching plans for CLB 1-6 using national LINC curriculum. Specifically, the course focuses on helping learners become proficient in aligning language competencies to language tasks (i.e., real-world tasks) as well as to other elements of language (i.e., grammar, vocabulary, discourse, language functions, socio-pragmatic use of language, strategies to manage language use and learning). The course also helps learners orient themselves in online repositories of skill-building and skill-using activities they can use for their long-range teaching plans.
