Tourism is a services product that is intangible, promises a future experience, exists only through the interaction of people, and depends on well-designed visual communication strategies. Effective marketing that factors in the people and the process involved in creating those experiences is key in driving business to tourism entities, including destinations, hotels, and attractions. In this class, students will explore and build marketing plans that lay the foundation for careers in destination marketing, branding, and public relations that are specific to tourism as a services product. Through real life tourism case studies and situations, future tourism professionals will analyze and build solutions while simultaneously learning the core definitions and principles behind consumer motivation, tourism branding, social media, and marketing planning. In-class participation and group work will allow students to gain proficiency in core marketing concepts and effective communication strategies.
