User Experience Design: User Empathy

Course Code: UXD 5112

Academic Year: 2024-2025

The practice of User Experience Design is rooted in research, yet all too often, companies forego or cut research budgets in their rush to get a new digital product or service to market. Students will first learn how to uncover business gaps and user-experience opportunities by conducting a heuristic evaluation and a competitive analysis. In this foundational course, students will learn to build empathy through planning a research project, conducting user interviews, analyzing, and reporting. Students will learn how to generate user personas and journey maps based on their research. Students will learn the fundamentals of usability testing and optimization, and practice by usability testing a prototype they've developed. Students will also be introduced to other qualitative and quantitative research methods.
