Anatomy for Artists

Course Code: VADA 153

Academic Year: 2024-2025

The course begins with the study of the human skeleton: the identification of its individual bones, the relative proportion of each bone to one another, and its impact on the outer form of the life model (visual landmarks). Building on this knowledge, the major muscle groups of the human form are investigated: the identification of the major muscle groups, its proper attachment and placement on the skeleton, the functionality of the muscles and its morphology. This theoretical framework is combined with drawing studies of the skeleton and life model, culminating in solid, accurate visual representations of the human form. Student's drawing skills, imagination and accumulated knowledge of human anatomy is further explored in comparison to other animals through completion of an independent project.
