The focus of the course is the rendering of the human figure in oil paint. All major stages in the production of a figure painting will be set out, investigated and incorporated through both indirect and direct methods of oil painting. The application and practice of the painting process from the life model will culminate in an independent assignment focusing on the expressive potentiality of the human form. The exploration of painting methods will be complimented by a thorough understanding of painting materials and supports. In unison with the acquisition of painting skills, students will explore compositional devices and rules of perspective to guide the design and creation of figurative works.
