This course will provide students with exposure to professional opportunities and prepare emerging artists for careers following graduation. Students will develop strategies for showcasing, marketing, promoting, and representing their work across a range of established and evolving platforms. Presentations and interviews with creative professionals will provide guidance on how to navigate a career within the arts. Working alongside their peers, students will develop and refine a creative portfolio that includes professional quality documentation of artworks and standard industry documents including an artist statement, biographical statement, and curriculum vitae. Through independent research and interviews, students will gain the confidence to clearly and effectively communicate personal strengths and career aspirations. Information on how to maintain a studio, navigate Canadian Copyright legislation, income tax, and finances will be provided to assist students in the development of a personal career plan.
