Experiential Learning 2 - Exercise Science and Lifestyle Management

Course Code: WORK 5500

Academic Year: 2024-2025

The Exercise Science and Lifestyle Management Experiential Learning courses provide practical experience for students to apply their learning in an on-campus work environment. This is the second of three work-integrated learning opportunities built into the program. In this course, students hold an on-campus "clinic" in our Exercise Physiology lab and provide fitness and lifestyle assessments for various client groups which may include varsity athletics teams, pre-service firefighters, recreational athletes, older adults, and others. This experience allows students to practice and develop their skills in areas such as fitness testing, exercise prescription, counseling, and coaching clients to meet their fitness and lifestyle goals. By working with various client groups in a clinical type setting, students also learn the importance of preparation, organization, teamwork, communication, motivation, and other interpersonal and technical skills.
