Students learn the critical role played by the production department and its relationship to all personnel within the publishing environment. They become familiar with manufacturing processes and specifications for many types of books in this survey course. Every aspect of book production is explored from identification of the many components of a book, to what they cost and how these components are manufactured and assembled in the finished product. Students will gain an understanding of new digital workflows from a scheduling standpoint, design creation, production editorial, composition, to final preparation for print and digital prepress and ePub creation. Students will understand the critical importance of cover design.
