The course builds on the content of HRT 152 - Event Design and Planning and provides students with the opportunity to design and execute a fundraising event. The course reinforces the creativity, decision-making, communication, event management, financial and team work skills employed to successfully conceptualize, develop, plan, execute and evaluate an event from start to finish. In groups, students plan and execute a fundraising event. Throughout the project, students undertake the event planning tasks necessary to successfully plan and execute their event including setting event goals and objectives, writing requests for proposals, site planning, budget preparation and tracking, event revenue development, production (A or V) co-ordination, catering and food and beverage management, risk management, marketing, sponsorship, working with suppliers, and event evaluation methods. This course provides students with real-life, hands-on event planning experience that they will be able to use in building their professional event portfolios in preparation for a career in the event industry.
