This course provides an introduction to the accounting and financial principles and practices used in evaluating and making decisions in a cultural organization. It is taught from the General
Management and Board perspective, building a framework to enable students to understand the financial health of the organization. Starting with the basic skills of double entry bookkeeping and the preparation of financial statements relevant to cultural organizations, the emphasis of the course shifts to budgeting, cash flow, financial statement analysis and other managerial practices used in decision making. Students gain an understanding of the business and regulatory environment within which arts organizations operate.
