2016-2017

This course begins where PSYC 165 finishes and traces child and adolescent development from age six through to early adulthood at age 24, examining the development of young people through a holistic lens. Aspects of physical, cognitive and socio-emotional development are considered through an ecological or systems perspective and as applied to CYC practice. Special attention is paid to developmental issues such as adolescent cognitive development and impact on risk-taking, development of identity, gender and function of peer group. Students participate in a virtual child simulation - enabling them to better apply aspects of child and adolescent development to lived experience.
