Professional Orientation 1 and 2 concentrate on the business skills necessary for an actor to make a living as a self-employed professional artist. Throughout the year, students receive mentorship from professional artists as well as faculty. They are introduced to the demands and etiquette of a variety of professional situations and environments. Students develop audition techniques and material; learn about the relationship of the actor to agents, artistic directors, casting directors, etc.; and prepare the necessary tools of the actor s trade (resum s, headshots, video and audio cassettes). Students are asked to prepare grant applications, budgets and media releases as a preparation for self-producing opportunities. Students are expected to develop a personal strategic plan to guide them through the transition from the college environment to the professional world.
